The short version: your family's memories are yours. We preserve them for as long as Narratrace operates — and if we ever stop, we give you 90 days to take everything with you. We never delete your content without your consent, never sell it to third parties, and never use it to train AI. All of these commitments are contingent on Narratrace's continued operation and, where they involve active service delivery, on an active subscription being on file.
By creating an account or using Narratrace in any way, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use Narratrace.
These terms form a binding agreement between you and Narratrace, a product of eXpand Systems LLC ("we", "us", "our"). We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email at least 30 days before taking effect.
Narratrace is a family memory preservation platform built and operated by eXpand Systems LLC. Our mission is to ensure that the voices, stories, and memories of the people you love are never lost. The product is available at www.narratrace.io.
You must be at least 18 years old to create a Narratrace account. By using the service, you represent that you meet this requirement. If you are creating an account on behalf of an organization or family group, you represent that you have the authority to bind them to these terms.
Narratrace is currently available to users in the United States and selected international markets. We reserve the right to restrict access based on geographic location to comply with applicable law.
Narratrace uses third-party identity providers (such as Google, Apple, or other supported SSO providers) for authentication. We never store your password — authentication is handled entirely by the identity provider you choose. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your identity provider account and for all activity that occurs under your Narratrace account.
You may not share your account credentials with others. If you want to give family members access to your archive, use the Family Vault feature — it is built for exactly this purpose.
Notify us immediately if you believe your account has been compromised.
Narratrace is built for preserving genuine family memories. You agree not to use Narratrace to:
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
Everything you upload to Narratrace — voice recordings, transcripts, photographs, letters, written memories — belongs to you. We do not claim any ownership over your content.
By using Narratrace, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, process, display, preserve, and restrictively archive your content solely for the purposes described in these Terms and the Privacy Policy. Account closure ends ordinary product processing and begins the restricted retention process described below.
We will never use your family's content to train AI models, sell it to third parties, or use it for any purpose beyond running the product you signed up for. In the event of a planned service discontinuation or acquisition, Section 17 governs how your data is handled before any such transfer or deletion occurs.
We do not delete your family's memories without your consent. This is the foundational commitment of Narratrace — that the voices and stories of the people you love are preserved with care and intention.
If your subscription lapses or moves to Vault, your archive remains available in read-only mode while new creation is paused. Long-term cold-storage behavior is subject to the approved retention and recovery schedule and may require restoration time.
Time-locked letters and scheduled deliveries are retained and queued for delivery on their specified dates regardless of subscription status, subject to the platform's continued operation (see Section 17).
Account closure starts a 30-day grace period. Afterward, ordinary access and sharing are revoked, direct identifiers are pseudonymized, and memories enter restricted archival retention. This process is not deletion or true anonymization. Legally required deletion rights and exceptions are handled under the applicable jurisdictional retention policy.
Narratrace allows you to create a Family Vault and invite other members to access your archive. The person who creates the vault is the permanent vault creator and cannot be removed from the vault by other members.
Vault owners may grant other members Editor or Viewer roles. Ownership transfer is not part of ordinary role editing. You are responsible for the members you invite and the access you grant them.
Removing a member from your Family Vault revokes their access to your archive. Their own separately uploaded content is not affected.
Narratrace uses AI to transcribe voice recordings, suggest interview questions, restore photographs, and extract highlights from conversations. AI-generated content may contain errors. Transcriptions are not guaranteed to be perfectly accurate.
We recommend reviewing AI-generated content before relying on it. We are not liable for inaccuracies in AI-generated transcriptions, summaries, or restorations.
Your private family content is not used for cross-user learning or model training. Any future change would require a separately approved explicit opt-in architecture; ordinary continued use or a general terms update is not consent for model training.
Access to Narratrace requires an active subscription. Subscriptions are billed on a recurring basis (monthly or annually, as selected). Payment is processed by Stripe, a third-party payment provider. We never see or store your payment card details.
Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled before the renewal date. You may cancel at any time via your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you retain full access until then.
We do not offer refunds for partial billing periods, except where required by applicable law. In the event of a planned service discontinuation, any unused portion of a prepaid annual subscription—or a grandfathered lifetime payment, if applicable—will be addressed as part of the discontinuation process described in Section 17, and we will make reasonable efforts to provide prorated credits or refunds where feasible. All billing and access commitments in this section are contingent on the continued operation of Narratrace.
Narratrace is currently in Early Access. This means features may change, be removed, or behave unexpectedly as we refine the product. We appreciate your patience and your feedback — it directly shapes what Narratrace becomes.
Despite the Early Access designation, our commitment to preserving your memories and protecting your data applies in full and is not diminished by Early Access status — subject to the general conditions described in Section 12. Early Access does not limit your rights or our obligations with respect to your content.
We aim to keep Narratrace available and reliable at all times. However, we do not guarantee uninterrupted access to the service. Maintenance, updates, and circumstances beyond our control may occasionally cause downtime. We will communicate planned maintenance in advance where possible. Emergency maintenance may occur without notice.
All features, services, and commitments described in these Terms — including but not limited to data preservation, scheduled deliveries, family vault access, AI processing, format maintenance, customer support, and billing operations — are subject to two general conditions: (1) Narratrace remaining in operation as a platform, and (2) the user maintaining at least one active paid subscription on file, where the commitment in question relates to active service delivery. The failure of either condition does not constitute a breach of contract by Narratrace, provided we comply with the obligations set out in Sections 7 and 17 respectively. The continued operation of the Narratrace platform is not guaranteed.
Nothing in these Terms creates an obligation on Narratrace to remain in business or to continue offering any specific feature indefinitely. Our commitment is to handle any change — including service discontinuation — with transparency, reasonable notice, and respect for your data.
You may stop using Narratrace at any time. Stopping use does not close the account. The account-closure control begins the grace, access-revocation, pseudonymization, and restricted archival process described in Section 7.
We may suspend or terminate ordinary account access if you materially violate these Terms of Service. We will provide notice where legally and operationally possible and make supported export tools available for 30 days. Memories then enter the restricted archival process in Section 7 rather than remaining available through the terminated account.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Narratrace and eXpand Systems LLC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these terms or your use of Narratrace shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for fraud, gross negligence, or any liability that cannot be excluded by law.
These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these terms shall be resolved in the courts of Delaware, unless otherwise required by applicable law.
Questions about these terms can be submitted through our contact form. We aim to respond to all terms-related inquiries within 5 business days.
Narratrace is a product of eXpand Systems LLC, built in partnership with Aroha Labs.
Narratrace allows you to schedule the delivery of letters, recordings, and messages for dates years or decades in the future. We take this responsibility seriously. However, all scheduled deliveries are contingent on the continued operation of the Narratrace platform. We cannot and do not guarantee delivery on a specified future date if Narratrace ceases to operate before that date arrives.
In the event that we make a decision to discontinue Narratrace, we will:
In the event of an unexpected cessation of business — including but not limited to bankruptcy, insolvency, or force majeure — we will make our best effort to honour the 90-day notice commitment, but cannot guarantee the same process or timeline. In such circumstances, eXpand Systems LLC bears no liability for undelivered scheduled content or data that cannot be retrieved.
In the event of an acquisition or merger, private family content will not be transferred to a new controller without the consent or other lawful process required by the applicable jurisdiction. We will notify affected users and provide available export and account-closure controls before any transfer where required.
We strongly recommend that users export and maintain independent copies of content that is important to them, rather than relying solely on a future delivery scheduled years in advance.
Narratrace stores your memories in file formats that are standard at the time of upload — including common image formats, audio recordings, and video files. Technology evolves, and file format standards, codecs, and playback compatibility change over time. We cannot guarantee that every file uploaded to Narratrace today will be natively playable using any specific software, device, or operating system available 5, 10, or 20 years from now.
Format monitoring, conversion, and compatibility maintenance are active services that require ongoing engineering effort. Accordingly, these services are only performed for accounts with at least one active paid subscription on file. Accounts without an active subscription remain read-only; future movement to cold storage is subject to the approved retention and recovery schedule.
To the extent reasonably practicable, for active subscribers we will:
However, we make no warranty that transcoding will perfectly preserve all technical qualities of original files across all future technologies. We are not liable for the loss of playback compatibility due to changes in file format standards, codec availability, or device capabilities that are beyond our reasonable control.
We recommend that users export and maintain independent copies of their most important files in multiple formats and locations, in addition to the copies stored with Narratrace.
